Captain Shepard

Jeff Shepard was promoted to Captain on August 2nd, 2017, and currently serves in the Administrative Division. Shepard’s career with the Jackson Police Department began in February of 1992, when he was hired as a Patrol Officer. He worked to improve relations between the citizens and the Police Department through Community Oriented Policing for several years.

In May of 1994, Shepard was awarded the Police Medal of Valor for stopping a series of armed robberies. Several persons were convicted in those incidents.

In 1998, he was reassigned to the Metro Narcotics Unit as an Investigator. Shepard handled numerous narcotics investigations and made a high number of arrests. In October 2000, he was reassigned to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) as an Investigator. He worked in Violent Crimes, Property Crimes, Auto Crimes and Financial Crimes investigations. In 2008, he attained the rank of Sergeant in CID. 

In 2013, Shepard was promoted to Lieutenant over the General Investigations Bureau. That unit handles all criminal investigations involving residential burglaries, property crimes, automobile crimes and financial crimes.

Shepard completed college Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), both from Bethel University. He graduated from South Side High School here in Jackson. He is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He lives in North Jackson.
