
JACKSON, Tenn. – Applications are now being accepted for high school students slated to graduate in 2027 (students entering their junior year of high school for the 2025-2026 school year).
This is the sixth year for the Mayor’s Youth Council, which was launched in the spring of 2020. The council was established to provide youth with a direct communications link to voice concerns and ideas to the mayor along with an opportunity to learn about how city government operations and policies.
Rising high school juniors are encouraged to apply by visiting http://youthcouncil.jacksontn.gov and selecting the “Mayor’s Youth Council Application” button.
Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:
- Must be a student entering their junior year of high school during the 2025-26 academic year (Graduating Class of 2027)
- Must reside in the corporate city limits of Jackson, TN
- Must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5
- Must have a passion for serving their community
- Must have the desire to learn about city government and be a leader among Jackson youth.
The council meets monthly to provide recommendations and work on special projects.
The mayor’s office will be reaching out to local home schools as well as public & private high schools for submissions. Applications and supporting documents are due by Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Students who complete the program will receive a recommendation letter from the mayor.
