Russ is a native of Jackson, having spent most of his life in the area. He now raises his own family with his wife, Sidney. They share the joy of raising their 2 children, Emma and Austin.

He works as a 4th-generation member of his family's pest control business, Mack Pest Control. The business is located in Downtown Jackson, where he spent a great deal of time growing up and now as a professional. Mack Pest Control has been in West Tennessee since the 1970's and in the Downtown area since the 1980's. He holds an associates degree in General Studies from Jackson State Community College as well as a bachelor's degree in Ogranizational Leadership from the University of Memphis, having completed his work at the U of M-Lambuth campus.

Russ is the 2021-2022 past-president of the Jackson Rotary Club. He graduated from the Greater Jackson Chamber's Leadership Jackson program in 2018's 40th class then returned in 2019 as the Co-Chair of the 41st class followed by serving as the Chair of 2020's 42nd "Covid Class." He also served for 5 years as a member of the Board of Directors for the Dream Center. In his free time, he enjoys summertime pool trips with his family and patronizing his favorite sports teams. Russ is an avid runner and fitness enthusiast, having completed several half marathons in recent years.
