Welcome to the Jackson Police Departments Camera Registry Program. The Jackson Police Department invites its citizens and businesses to become an integral part of Crime Prevention in the City of Jackson. One way to do this is through our Camera Registry Program
What is the Camera Registry Program?
The Camera Registry Program allows businesses and citizens to register their security cameras with the Jackson Police Department. We only want those cameras that are external facing. Once a camera is registered, if a crime occurs in your area, we can then send requests for video to those who have registered cameras in a given area.
Will the Jackson Police be able to view my cameras?
No, the Jackson Police Department will only see the video that you are willing to share with us. We will never have access to view any of your cameras live.
How can I register my camera?
You can register your camera(s) by visiting this link here.
Is there any cost to register my cameras?
There is no cost to register your cameras and it is totally voluntary. We hope you take advantage of this opportunity to help the Jackson Police Department fight crime in your neighborhoods.
As always, the Jackson Police Department will safeguard any information that is shared with us. Our service to you is of utmost importance and we strive to provide the best services possible. This is another way for the Jackson Police Department to work hand in hand with the citizens that we love to serve.
The Citizen’s Police Academy is a revolutionary concept in law enforcement and police/community relations. As part of a continuing program to develop citizen awareness and understanding of the role of law enforcement, the Jackson Police Department has created a police academy course designed for citizens of all backgrounds and occupations.
The eight-week/24-hour training program consists of classroom and “hands-on” instruction. Topics covered include the job of the uniformed patrol officer, investigative procedures, tactical operations, laws and legal issues and the use of “drug dogs” in Drug Task Force Operations. Students will participate in many interesting activities such as touring police facilities, using police equipment and collecting evidence and role-play scenarios.
Graduates of this course will not be police officers but will be better-informed citizens. The graduates will be in a position to relate their experiences to friends and co-workers.
Each applicant must be 21 years of age to attend the class. Each applicant must answer all questions on the application form. To graduate, each student must attend six of the eight classes. Therefore, prior to applying, each student must determine whether or not they can attend the minimum number of classes required for graduation. The class meets each Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Jackson Police Department.
NOTE: Eligibility for this program cannot be considered if any of the following apply:
- A or B Misdemeanor Conviction
- Domestic Assault Conviction

The Neighborhood Watch program is made up of citizens who take the initiative to help prevent crime in their neighborhoods. Participants keep an eye out for their neighbors and their homes by taking note of unusual activity and reporting the proper information to authorities in the event of a crime. The Jackson Police also give citizens feedback on how to make their neighborhood more undesirable to criminals.
The Neighborhood Watch program is led by the Crime Prevention Unit of the Jackson Police Department. The Crime Prevention Unit takes a proactive approach to citizen interaction with a wide range of activities.
START A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUP
To create a neighborhood watch group, call the Jackson Police Department and speak with the Neighborhood Watch coordinator. The coordinator will take down your information and let you know what needs to be done to organize the neighborhood watch. You will plan your first meeting with the Jackson Police Department. During the meeting, the Police Department will review booklets describing how to set up the program in your neighborhood. Following the meetings, your neighborhood will have Neighborhood Watch signs posted in the area by the City of Jackson.
To be successful, Neighborhood Watch groups should stay active. Groups are encouraged to call the Jackson Police Department once a year to schedule an update meeting. During this meeting, the Jackson Police Department will provide new information and review your past meetings.
